Typical Head End Power (HEP) set consisting of a contactor cabinet and a relay/control cabinet.

The contactor panel contains an 800-1200 amp three-phase contactor, an automatic generator/shore power transfer switch, and a myriad of distribution breakers to power all of the auxiliary equipment needed for the HEP unit operation. 

The relay cabinet houses all of the engine/generator start/stop and safety logic.  All HEP units are built with over/under voltage, over/under frequency, overcurrent, and ground fault protection as a standard.  Engine safeties vary upon engine manufacturer but are included.  74VDC control voltage to match the railroad industry standard.
