Shown here is a manual portable/stationary gen and an automatic gen/utility transfer switch (breakers are electrically and mechanically interlocked so that only one breaker may be closed at a time).

Our transfer switches differ from our competitors in that we use factory standard circuit breakers that are interchangeable with other breakers in your system.  They also offer internal over current and/or ground fault protection that you don't get with a standard transfer switch.  Our transfer switches also offer a "bump less" (no power loss) transfer test as well as return to normal so you don't have to disrupt your daily processes.  Keep in mind that most transfer switches require conduit entry near the front of the panel.  If your power requirements ever increase to where you need to upgrade or eliminate your transfer switch, you will really be in a bind.
